I switched up grocery stores last night in search of new inspiration. I found these mini whole wheat pita pocket things that make for a  great little sammy. If only I had a pannini grill…

Ingredients: Swiss cheese, Homemade Hummous, Roma Tomato, Arugula and Mayo in a whole wheat flax pita.

This sandwich came highly recommended and lived up to it’s ‘heavenly’ description. Now I would like to pass on the recommendation…available at Brioche in Gastown. Soooo goooood.

Ingredients: Roast Beef, Gorgonzola Cheese, Lettuce and Tomato on pannini bread.

Unfortunately I cannot vouch for any of these, but I hear Dagwoods is pretty decent…”it’s like Subway, only better”. Who votes Subway as best sandwich? WHO?!

I hit the THIRD most famous smoked meat spot in Montreal today. I posted Schwartz‘s in a past entry, and wanted to lower the bar a little to keep room for improvement. Actually, we were right around the corner from Abie’s and that’s how we ended up there. Third best, Shmird best, this was daaaaaamn good eatin. Smoked meat sandwich, fries, pickle and a cherry coke. Oui merci!

This is the best best sandwich. I don’t just write this blog to rodomontade I really hope that you try these recipes. This one happens to be ultra good because of the salami. As mentioned in yesterday’s lunch post, this is some homemade hungarian salami from a Euro-deli on the Island. According to a reliable source, this is the best Hungarian salami he’s tried since being in Canada (40 years!). Tastes just like it does ‘back home’…

Ingredients: Hungarian Salami, Green Peppers and Keen’s Hot Mustard on a whole wheat bun.

Followed up today’s lunch sammy with a dinner sammy 🙂 Leftover homemade meat sauce in a bun…SLOPPY JOE! This is fine dinning right here.

A visit from my Dad = another cold-cut delivery. Excellent. This time something different too; one-sandwich portion of Dutch Smoked Beef. Apparently there is a very authentic European deli in Victoria that smokes this beef in-house and makes their own salami and stuff. Wasn’t really sure what to put in the sammy but it worked out. Trying new things is fun. Looked weird, smelled smokey, tasted great! Would have been nice as a hot sandwich.

And I got a jar of ‘the best’ German red cabbage, according to Emery. Also a nice change for my lunch.

Ingredients: Dutch Smoked Beef, Balderson’s Sharp White Cheddar, Horseradish and Mustard on Flax toast.
